Sticking to the 25 number from last month. Note that I haven’t heard Lemonade because it’s not on Spotify, and I’m not going to pay for another service just to hear one album, so when it shows up on Spotify in a few weeks, it’ll probably occupy a spot towards the top of this list. So, March had some really strong releases, including the surprise return of King Kendrick, the full maturation of one of the country’s top young songwriters, and a few strong returns from some of music’s biggest icons. Top Records for February 2016

Alright, after a really weak start to the month of February, this week’s releases finally evened out the list a little bit. I listened to a lot of stuff this month, trying to find something to get way up there, so some decent ones that might have made other months lists won’t make this one. Also, new records from Lucinda Williams and the 1975 are not available on Spotify, and thus I haven’t heard them yet. They may get added in later. With no further ado, here are my top albums of February 2016.

1 Bonnie Raitt “Dig in Deep” 8.3

Top Records for June 2015

So between being busier at work than we have been earlier in the year and just not being able to get into a lot of albums this month, I haven’t gotten to do any review posts, and I definitely didn’t score 20 records to make the usual monthly list. That being said, this month’s top record for June is from the hometown kid, Leon Bridges. I’ll give what scores I’ve got below, and I’m going to try and pump out a mid-year list here soon.

1 Leon Bridges “Coming Home” 8.5
2 Jamie XX “In Colour” 8.5

3 Wolf Alice “My Love is Cool” 8.4
4 Bully “Feels Like” 8.3

7 Kacey Musgraves “Pageant Material” 7.9

Top Shows Coming to Town for 6/19/15-6/25/15

Going off of Pollstar screwed me over again, and I missed Leon’s Barefoot at the Belmont (then I guess I blocked it out, cause I was mad I couldn’t get tickets. Oh well, looks like it’s gonna rain there anyway) last week, so I’ve hopped up my attempt to roll my concert calendar into my spreadsheet, so I won’t miss as much. Still mostly going off of Pollstar this week, but maybe I can get everything loaded by the time next week rolls around.

1 Leon Bridges @ Scat Jazz Lounge (Fort Worth) Sat 6/20/15

The kid’s blowing up. Playing 2 shows Saturday at the intimate jazz lounge, to celebrate the release of his debut record. Tickets have been selling on the secondary market for upwards of $200. Don’t worry, you’ll get another chance soon. He’ll be at the Majestic in November (might want to get on that though).

2 Brian Wilson w/ Rodriguez @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Weds 6/24/15

Probably shouldn’t have the young upstart ahead of one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but Leon’s is a much hotter ticket, so I’m going with that.

3 Avett Brothers w/ Old Crow Medicine Show @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Thurs 6/25/15

Seems like these guys are here every month. They’re definitely in town quite often for a band that’s not from Texas.

4 Best Coast w/ Bully @ Granada Theater (Lower Greenville) Weds 6/24/15

Still a little surprised I haven’t seen them yet. Bethany Cosentino makes some of the best beach inspired rock going right now. Maybe not quite on the level of #2 up there, but it’s still solid.

5 Dawes @ Strauss Square (Dallas) Weds 6/24/15

A nice little indie group that craft some lovely songs.

6 Darius Rucker @ Gexa Energy Pavilion (Dallas) Fri 6/19/15

Darius “Don’t Call Me Hootie” Rucker does his country thing on Friday. No Blowfish necessary.

7 White Snake @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Mon 6/22/15

HERE I GO AGAIN ON MY OWN!!!! Oh, sorry, got distracted. 3 of the top 7 shows this week are on a week day at Verizon.

8 Jodeci w/ Tony! Toni! Tone! @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Sun 6/21/15

And they’ve got some throw back R&B on Sunday after brunch. Tony! Toni! Tone! opens.

9 Jefferson Starship @ Gas Monkey (Dallas) Thurs 6/25/15

No Grace Slick = meh

10 Charlie Mars @ Live Oak Music Hall (Fort Worth) Sat 6/20/15

SMU Grad, singer/songwriter Charlie Mars heads to Funkytown this weekend.

Also in town this week: 6/19 Yelawolf @ Bomb Factory, Quiet Company @ Nasher Sculpture Center, Josh Abbott Band @ Lone Star Park, Hudson Moore @ Levitt Pavilion, Mark Chesnutt @ Billy Bob’s, the Dan Band @ House of Blues, Heartbyrne @ Granada Theater; 6/20 Delta Rae @ the Kessler Theater, Grupo Fantasma @ Dada, Kevin Fowler @ Billy Bob’s, Black Violin @ Levitt Pavilion; 6/21 Gedeon Luke @ Levitt Pavilion; 6/24 Say Anything @ Gas Monkey; 6/25 Kathy Griffin @ Majestic Theatre, Royal Southern Brotherhood @ Levitt Pavilion

Anyways, that’s all for this week, so……

Get out there and see some shows!
