Long Time, No See!

Sorry, I haven’t been able to keep up with the site as much the last few months. I generally listen to music at work or in the car, and a few months back, we started getting a little busier at work, and I haven’t been able to stay on top of as much music as I would like. Either way, I’ve listened to enough that I think I’ll be able to put together a best of the year list, and I have still chosen monthly records.

Back in July, I went with the obvious selection, Tame Impala’s Currents, which I think I might have ordered as the record of the month before I even heard it. Either way, it didn’t disappoint, and currently holds a spot in the top 5 for the year.

In August, there were a couple of local records (Jonathan Tyler and Salim Nourallah) that almost got the nod, but in the end, I went with the first Dan Auerbach record I’ve really enjoyed in Asa’s lifetime (I’m saying I wasn’t impressed with the last Black Keys record, if you’re not reading between the lines). Auerbach is one of my favorite guitarists (I like his solo record Keep It Hid almost as much as anything he’s done with the Keys), and his latest record with his band, the Arcs, Yours, Dreamily, is a pretty solid work.

In September, I went with Kurt Vile’s new record, B’lieve I’m Goin’ Down. This one’s another one holding down a top 10 spot at the moment. Vile’s last record was lauded by critics, but while I enjoyed it, I had a hard time getting into it. Songs seemed to drag on too much. While this record still has a penchant for 6-8 minute songs, they managed to pull me in more than the last record. I don’t know if I’m just getting used to him, or if it’s just improved songcraft, but I likes it.

This month, it’s pretty tight between Majical Cloudz, Neon Indian, and the surprise 2nd album of 2015 from Beach House (thank goodness, the 1st one didn’t do much for me). At this time, I think I’m leaning toward the deeply intimate record from Majical Cloudz, but we’ll see.

Anyways, going forward, I may do a short blurb on my albums of the month, and try to get back to doing Discoveries of the Day if I get a chance.

Also, going to try to keep my concert calendar updated and get you a good Top Shows Coming to Town list going again soon, and maybe a special weekly feature to let you know where some of my favorite local artists will be, not to mention, I’m working on what I hope to be a weekly segment, introducing you to some of my favorite DFW artists.

Hopefully, I can manage to not disappear for a bit. 🙂

See you soon.
