So, this week is an easy one. Crossing #1 off my must-see list for the 2nd time in a year. Pretty excited. Aside from that, there’s a lot of good shows I would have loved to go through if I weren’t allotting my concert budget and time to the Stones.
1 Rolling Stones w/ Grace Potter @ AT&T Stadium (Arlington) Sat 6/6/15
Only one of the greatest rock bands of all time. And Grace Potter ain’t so bad herself.
2 Courtney Barnett @ Club Dada (Deep Ellum) Sat 6/6/15
Before the Stones show was announced, I almost bit on a very rare trip from me to Deep Ellum to catch this one. One of my favorite emerging artists, period.
3 Tim McGraw @ Gexa Energy Pavilion (Dallas) Sat 6/6/15
So, I think I used to like Tim McGraw, back before he started making all those cheesy songs. What, that’s his whole career, my bad. Anyways, I guess this is a big show.
4 Benjamin Booker @ Trees (Deep Ellum) Tues 6/9/15
Booker blew up so big and so fast last year, that he had to be moved to a larger stage for weekend 2 at ACL.
5 Black Joe Lewis @ Flying Saucer (Fort Worth) Sun 6/7/15
Black Joe might be my favorite performer in Texas. We’ve seen him several times and it’s always an excellent show. I would totally be at this, if I had a sitter and wasn’t going to the Stones the day before.
6 Butch Walker/Jonathan Tyler @ Majestic Theatre (Dallas) Sun 6/7/15
Butch Walker is pretty good, and Jonathan Tyler is another one of my favorite Texan performers.
7 Christopher Owens @ Club Dada (Deep Ellum) Tues 6/9/15
the former Girls frontman is touring in support of his latest, Chrissybaby Forever. Deep Ellum’s got a couple pretty good shows going that night.
8 the Mountain Goats @ the Kessler Theater (Oak Cliff) Mon 6/8/15
John Darnielle and his folk powerhouse tour in support of their excellent new record, Beat the Champ.
9 Johnny Mathis @ Winspear Opera House (Dallas) Thus 6/11/15
Born in Gilmer, TX, the soon-to-be 80 year old Mathis will have your grandma swooning at the Winspear, while he sings the classics.
10 Trails and Ways @ Club Dada (Deep Ellum) Weds 6/10/15
the Deep Ellum party doesn’t stop on a Tuesday. Here’s another excellent emerging band on Wednesday.
Also in town this week: 6/5 Brandi Carlile @ House of Blues, Robert Earl Keen @ Billy Bob’s, Doug Burr @ Magnolia Motor Lounge, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ Club Dada, Shelby Lynne @ AT&T Performing Arts Center, Romeo Santos @ American Airlines Center, Pinata Protest @ the Aardvark; 6/6 Clint Black @ Billy Bob’s, Bowling for Soup @ House of Blues, Jim Jefferies @ the Majestic Theatre, the Relatives @ Dallas Zoo, Band of Heathens @ Dan’s Silverleaf; 6/7 Active Child @ the Kessler, Ingrid Michaelson @ House of Blues; 6/8 the Helio Sequence @ Club Dada; 6/11 the Melvins/Le Butcherettes @ Trees
Anyways, that’s all for this week, so……
Get out there and see some shows!
