Top Record for the Week of 5/12/15

One of my favorite live acts leads a pretty solid batch of releases this week.

This week’s top record:

Patrick Watson “Love Songs for Robots”

Get It On Vinyl

Patrick Watson is one of my favorite live performers that’s not of the headline variety. His shows are incredibly intimate and personal and always enjoyable. Until now, he’s been one of those artists that’s live show tends to exceed the album format. But with Love Songs for Robots, he seems to be onto something. Patrick’s soaring falsetto and intricately textured arrangements always seem well thought out and planned. On Love Songs for Robots, though, he finally captures the ethereal beauty and intimacy of his live performances. Despite the title, the record doesn’t really have a lot of synth, or deal with science fiction at all. It focuses more on the things that make us human, hope, love, creativity, and the things that keep us from being basic analog machines. It’s a quite stirring, beautiful, and at times weird album, but it’s one that’s definitely to be enjoyed.
