Top Record for the Week of 4/14/15

A nice big “meh” week here. My number 1 this week I appear to be rating a lot higher than the general consensus. It’s admittedly flawed, but it gets the job done, in a genre that rarely has consistent albums. This week’s top record:

the Wombats “Glitterbug”

Get It On Vinyl

The Wombats obviously don’t take themselves too seriously. The young Liverpool lads churn out catchy synth-pop hits, like they’re going out of style. This album does find them a little bit less goofy, but they still have some of that sleazy charm we love.  All in all, it’s rare to find a solid synth-pop album, through and through, and this one doesn’t quite hit the mark, but there are some fun tracks here to get down to, and sometimes that’s all you need.

Listen: the Wombats “Emoticons”

Score: 7.8
