Top Record for the Week of 4/7/15

A pretty solid batch of albums this week, a handful of good records, although I’m not sure there are any “excellent” records. This week’s album of the week:

Waxahatchee “Ivy Tripp”

Get It On Vinyl

Katie Crutchfield is quickly becoming an indie-rock queen. Her last record, Cerulean Salt was pretty well received. I liked it myself, but I don’t know that I would have had it in the 8’s (seems like I had it hovering somewhere around there). With this record, however, she seems to have polished off her sound and is starting to find herself. In fact, that’s pretty much what the album is about. While Cerulean Salt was more of a coming of age album, Ivy Tripp is more about coming to grips with adulthood. It’s an intimate and ambitious record, that marks Katie’s full arrival to indie rock royalty.
