Top Record for the Week of 3/31/15

Year of the storytellers indeed, and this time, it’s an old friend coming back to his roots. This week’s album of the week:

Sufjan Stevens “Carrie and Lowell”

Get It On Vinyl

Sufjan Stevens is one of music’s most prolific songwriters.  In the last 15 years, he’s put out 7 full length albums, as well as two extensive volumes of Christmas music. Carrie and Lowell marks a return to his folksy roots, and is perhaps the most intimate glimpse into what makes Sufjan Sufjan that we’ve seen yet. The album follows the issues of life with Stevens’ mother, Carrie, who was diagnosed bipolar and schizophrenic, while suffering from drug addiction and substance abuse, and includes Stevens’ stepfather, Lowell Brams. It’s touching, emotional and beautiful, and you should give it a whirl, when you’re in the right kind of mood to do so.
