A pretty good week of up and comers and bucket listers this week
1 Buddy Guy @ House of Blues (Dallas) Fri, 3/27/15
One of the great blues guitarists. Might not be performing for too much longer, so check him out while you can.
2 Pentatonix @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Sun, 3/29/15
Local celebrities and “Sing Off” champions Pentatonix come home for a show at Verizon.
3 Magic Man w/ Great Good Fine OK @ House of Blues (Dallas) Sun, 3/29/15
Magic Man is one of my favorite synth-pop discoveries of the past year or so, and the opener’s pretty solid too.
4 the Wailers @ Trees (Deep Ellum) Fri, 3/27/15
Performing the songs of one of the greatest songwriters ever, Mr. Bob Marley, if this wasn’t a band of mostly replacements, and maybe if one of the sons were singing vocals, this would be the 1 seed.
5 Dr Dog @ House of Blues (Dallas) Thurs, 4/2/15
Indie-folk rock group from Pennsylvania always put on an energetic show.
6 Broods @ Trees (Deep Ellum) Weds, 4/1/15
Up-and coming brother-sister duo from New Zealand had intoxicating track “Bridges” last year.
7 Martina McBride @ Billy Bob’s Texas (Fort Worth) Sat, 3/28/15
Along with the great Reba McEntire, one of my favorite female country artists of my youth.
8 Hurray for the Riff Raff @ Dada Dallas (Deep Ellum) Weds, 4/1/15
New Orleans folk-country collective had one of the more enjoyable albums of 2014.
9 Colleen Green @ the Grotto (Fort Worth) Thurs, 4/2/15
Emerging indie artist makes simple, catchy garage rock tunes
10 Talib Kweli @ Trees (Deep Ellum) Tues, 3/31/15
One of my favorite hip-hop artists from my college years. A legendary MC.
Also in town this week: Sir Mix-a-Lot, b/c big butts are making a comeback (or did they never leave), REO Speedwagon and Mary Chapin Carpenter make stops in the funk.
Anyways, that’s all for this week, so……
Get out there and see some shows!
