Top Record for the Week of 3/10/15

This week was somewhat light on solid releases, but I managed to find some. This week’s pick for top record comes from the land down under, and is actually a new discovery for me, and a fun record. This week’s top record is:

Dick Diver “Melbourne, Florida”

Get It On Vinyl

Contrary to the album’s title, Dick Diver hail from the other Melbourne, the one down under. They’ve established themselves as the kind of band that puts out jangly guitar pop, reminiscent of 80’s college radio rock. I didn’t listen to 80’s college radio, so I hear more of Belle & Sebastian and 90’s guitar pop, but still, that’s what’s going on here. It’s a nice throwback record, reminiscent of a summer road trip FM radio listening. Some of the tracks have a woozy synth sound, not unlike their Australian contemporaries, Tame Impala, but for the most part, they stick to nostalgic, jangly guitar tracks, and it’s just a lot of fun.
