Lots of Americana/Country/Southern type stuff going down this week.
1 John Mellencamp @ McFarlin Memorial Auditorium (Dallas) Sat 3/7
One of America’s greatest roots-rockers, Mellencamp sings about the land he loves and does it pretty true to the culture of his subject.
2 Mavis Staples @ the Kessler Theatre (Oak Cliff) Sun 3/8
Civil Rights figure and gospel legend Mavis Staples carries on the family legacy and sings the classics.
3 Miranda Lambert @ American Airlines Center (Dallas) Thurs 3/12
Mrs. Blake Shelton definitely has more to her than just being Mrs. Blake Shelton. Quickly becoming a force in the Country music landscape.
4 Alan Jackson w/ Jon Pardi & Ashley Monroe @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Fri 3/6
One of Country music’s greatest songwriters, Alan Jackson returns to the stage with some solid up-and-comers.
5 James McMurtry @ Granada Theater Fri 3/6
Last week’s record of the week artist, Austin’s James McMurtry, makes a venture into town.
6 Lisa Lampanelli @ Majestic Theatre (Dallas) Sat 3/7
The Queen of Mean returns to the Majestic Theatre, where she performs fairly regularly
7 Carolyn Wonderland @ Live Oak Music Hall (Fort Worth) Thurs 3/12
One of my favorite Texas blues artists. I’ll be seeing her the next day in the Big D.
8 Ryan Bingham/Lucero @ South Side Ballroom (Dallas) Fri 3/6
A strong 1-2 punch of Southern music.
9 Cold War Kids @ House of Blues (Dallas) Fri, 3/6
I’m not super into this indie group from Long Beach (they’re kinda middle of the road for me), but they’re a pretty solid indie rock outfit.
10 Greensky Bluegrass @ Granada Theater (Dallas) Sun 3/8
Michigan Bluegrass band that’s finally starting to draw some of the attention they deserve.
Get out there and enjoy some shows!
