A pretty solid week of shows coming up. A couple of music legends, and a few of my favorite Texas artists.
1 Diana Ross @ Verizon Theatre (Grand Prairie) Thurs 2/26
If you feel the need to Motown it up, one of the ultimate divas and former Supremes frontwoman is in town this week.
2 Jonathan Richman @ Rubber Gloves (Denton) Tues 2/24
A true rock pioneer, Richman founded the highly influential proto-punk band, the Modern Lovers.
3 Black Joe Lewis @ Dan’s Silverleaf (Denton) Fri 2/20
The Austin funk artist always puts on a hell of a show. Might not want to take the kids though.
4 Bad Suns w/ Maudlin Strangers @ Trees (Deep Ellum) Mon 2/23
A pair of up and coming pop-rock groups in Deep Ellum. You can say you saw them when.
5 Mardi Gras Texas Style @ Fair Park (Dallas) Sat 2/21
This event in Fair Park features Randy Rogers Band, Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Johnson, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Cody Canada and the Departed, William Clark Green, Uncle Lucius, Mike and the Moonpies, and Shinyribs.
6 Bob Schneider @ Granada Theater (Dallas) Sat 2/21
This popular Austin singer-songwriter highlights a busy week at the Granada this week. My 2 year old’s seen him, but I suspect this show will be a bit dirty.
7 Asleep at the Wheel @ the Kessler (Oak Cliff) Fri 2/20
A Texas classic at one of my favorite venues in Dallas. This one should be a cool one.
8 the Wood Brothers @ Granada Theater (Dallas) Weds 2/25
Another Granada show, this Bluesy Americana band features Chris Wood (of Medeski, Martin and Wood) on upright bass, and his brother Oliver on guitar
9 Rob Delaney @ House of Blues (Dallas) Mon 2/23
Standup comic who pretty much rules Twitter.
10 Lights @ Granada Theater (Dallas) Fri 2/20A Canadian electo-pop artist. As an aside, she met her future husband at a Taking Back Sunday concert. They’ll be in town the next day at South Side Ballroom
Enjoy and get out and see some shows.
